Set up tap on the back

Listen Flow starts when you tap the back of your iPhone. iOS does not let an app set this up by itself, so you do it once, in two parts: first add three Shortcuts, then link them to Back Tap. It takes about two minutes.

Part 1: add the Shortcuts

Choose one of two ways. Both give the same three Shortcuts: Read Clipboard, Read Screen and Pick Starting Point.

Way A, on your Mac (easiest with both devices).

Open Listen Flow on your Mac and go to Settings, Shortcuts for your iPhone.
Click Add next to each of the three. The Shortcuts app opens; confirm with Add Shortcut. A notice that an action is unavailable on the Mac is normal: the actions belong to the iPhone app.
Make sure iCloud is on for Shortcuts on both devices (iPhone: Settings, your name, iCloud, Shortcuts). After a minute the three Shortcuts are on your iPhone.

Way B, on your iPhone.

Open Listen Flow and tap How it works.
Tap the button at each step, choose Shortcuts and tap Add Shortcut. Do this for all three.

Part 2: link them to Back Tap, on your iPhone

Open Settings, Accessibility, Touch, Back Tap. Searching for "back tap" in Settings is quickest.
Set Double Tap to Read Clipboard.
Set Triple Tap to Read Screen.

Try it

Copy a text and tap the back of your iPhone twice. Listen Flow starts reading. Tap twice again to stop.
Tap three times on any screen: Listen Flow reads what is on it, from the top.

Without any setup you can always paste a text in the app, ask Siri "Read clipboard with Listen Flow", or put Listen Flow on the Action button.

On a Mac

⌥L reads from the line under your pointer to the end of that post or article. Press ⌥L again to stop.
⌥⇧L reads the clipboard. ⌃⌥L reads an area of the screen you drag a box over.
⌃P pauses or continues, ⌃⇧P stops.
The first time, allow Listen Flow under System Settings, Privacy & Security, Accessibility.

Questions

Do I need an ElevenLabs account?

Only for the most natural voices. Without an account the free Apple voice reads aloud, also offline. With ElevenLabs you paste your own key in Settings; it needs the permissions Text to Speech and Voices read.

What does it cost?

Listen Flow is free. ElevenLabs charges per character on your own account. Listen Flow only fetches what you will hear in the next fifteen seconds, and listening again costs nothing.

Why does Listen Flow ask for permission for ElevenLabs?

Because your text then goes to ElevenLabs to become speech. You choose. Without permission nothing is sent and the Apple voice reads aloud. You can change this any time in Settings.

Which languages?

Dutch, English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and Portuguese. Each paragraph is recognised separately and read with the right pronunciation.

How do I delete my texts?

Swipe a text away in Recent. Texts without a star disappear by themselves after 30 days. See the privacy policy for how to remove everything.

Does it work on iPad or Android?

Not yet. Listen Flow is for iPhone (iOS 18 or later) and Mac (macOS 15.2 or later).

Tik op de achterkant instellen

Listen Flow start als je op de achterkant van je iPhone tikt. iOS laat een app dat niet zelf instellen, dus je doet het één keer, in twee delen: eerst drie Opdrachten toevoegen, dan koppelen aan Tik op achterkant. Het kost zo'n twee minuten.

Deel 1: de Opdrachten toevoegen

Kies een van twee manieren. Beide geven dezelfde drie Opdrachten: Lees klembord, Lees scherm en Kies startpunt.

Manier A, op je Mac (het makkelijkst als je beide hebt).

Open Listen Flow op je Mac en ga naar Instellingen, Opdrachten voor je iPhone.
Klik bij alle drie op Voeg toe. De app Opdrachten opent; bevestig met Voeg opdracht toe. Een melding dat een actie op de Mac niet beschikbaar is, is normaal: de acties horen bij de iPhone app.
Zorg dat iCloud aanstaat voor Opdrachten op beide toestellen (iPhone: Instellingen, je naam, iCloud, Opdrachten). Na een minuut staan de drie Opdrachten op je iPhone.

Manier B, op je iPhone.

Open Listen Flow en tik op Zo werkt het.
Tik bij elke stap op de knop, kies Opdrachten en tik op Voeg opdracht toe. Doe dit voor alle drie.

Deel 2: koppelen aan Tik op achterkant, op je iPhone

Open Instellingen, Toegankelijkheid, Aanraken, Tik op achterkant. Zoeken op "achterkant" in Instellingen gaat het snelst.
Zet Dubbeltik op Lees klembord.
Zet Drievoudige tik op Lees scherm.

Proberen

Kopieer een tekst en tik twee keer op de achterkant van je iPhone. Listen Flow begint met voorlezen. Nog een keer twee keer tikken stopt.
Tik drie keer op een willekeurig scherm: Listen Flow leest voor wat erop staat, van boven naar beneden.

Zonder iets in te stellen kun je altijd een tekst plakken in de app, Siri vragen "Lees klembord voor met Listen Flow", of Listen Flow op de Actieknop zetten.

Op de Mac

⌥L leest vanaf de regel onder je muis tot het einde van dat bericht of artikel. Nog een keer ⌥L stopt.
⌥⇧L leest het klembord. ⌃⌥L leest een stuk van het scherm waar je een vak over sleept.
⌃P pauzeert of gaat verder, ⌃⇧P stopt.
Geef Listen Flow de eerste keer toegang bij Systeeminstellingen, Privacy en beveiliging, Toegankelijkheid.

Vragen

Heb ik een ElevenLabs account nodig?

Alleen voor de natuurlijkste stemmen. Zonder account leest de gratis Apple stem voor, ook zonder internet. Met ElevenLabs plak je je eigen sleutel in Instellingen; die heeft de rechten Text to Speech en Voices lezen nodig.

Wat kost het?

Listen Flow is gratis. ElevenLabs rekent per teken op je eigen account. Listen Flow haalt alleen op wat je in de komende vijftien seconden hoort, en opnieuw luisteren kost niets.

Waarom vraagt Listen Flow toestemming voor ElevenLabs?

Omdat je tekst dan naar ElevenLabs gaat om er spraak van te maken. Jij kiest. Zonder toestemming gaat er niets weg en leest de Apple stem voor. Je kunt het altijd aanpassen in Instellingen.

Welke talen?

Nederlands, Engels, Frans, Spaans, Duits, Italiaans en Portugees. Elke alinea wordt apart herkend en met de juiste uitspraak voorgelezen.

Hoe verwijder ik mijn teksten?

Veeg een tekst weg in Recent. Teksten zonder ster verdwijnen na 30 dagen vanzelf. Hoe je alles weghaalt, staat in het privacybeleid.

Werkt het op iPad of Android?

Nog niet. Listen Flow is er voor iPhone (iOS 18 of nieuwer) en Mac (macOS 15.2 of nieuwer).
